  • Account Executive / First Salesperson

    Apply for this position

We are building a different kind of sales organization at Socialwire. Since you would be the first focused enterprise salesperson, you will be a key part of helping us define that organization around our core principles. Are you the type of person that convinces your friends and family to buy products that you love, not because you have anything to gain, but because you want others to experience the same passion you feel? Because this is what we’re looking for, and this is what is going to create tremendous success in this role. Our product is unique, it is defensible, and it works. Our clients include some of the top retailers on the planet, and you’re going to make that list world class.

As CEO, I have been the only salesperson for the last year and I have thoroughly enjoyed selling this product because of all the value it has created for our customers. They literally thank us – sometimes just for pitching them the product. This is a “run the table” opportunity for the right individual to come in and help us own the market for product ads.

We are not just selling a new tool for social marketing, we are selling a new way of thinking about marketing for retailers. As such, success in this position will require extraordinary empathy for our customers and the way they run their business. We are selling the end of the loss-leader approach, and the beginning of true product discovery through advertising. Remember the old sales interview question of “sell me this fork?” Our answer would be - we’re not selling forks – we’re selling the idea of eating with silverware instead of your hands.

Some of the requirements that we would ask you to demonstrate:

    • You are exceptionally ethical and honest – this is a must.
    • You are passionate. In your cover letter, please describe something that you love – and explain why you love it and why you would recommend it to people you love.
    • You are intelligent. We sell to some of the smartest marketers on the planet. You will not only need to keep up with them, you will need to go toe to toe with them to explain why their incredible system of eating with their hands is still inferior to our silverware.
    • You are an exceptional communicator. All the passion and intelligence in the world is lost on those that can’t articulate their thoughts persuasively.
    • You are analytical. Success in this business comes down to numbers. You will need to be able to model out success metrics in terms of return on ad spend, CPA, and other client KPIs.
    • You have a history of making bold decisions. We want to know that you are not afraid to take risks that have the potential to pay off in huge ways.
    • You have humility that only comes from people that are truly self-confident.

    Some other important notes:

While we are selling media related products, we are not directly selling media. We sell a platform for marketing automation. As such, the fact that you have sold ads before is not necessarily helpful. In fact, if you have only sold media to big agencies, and have never sold directly into retailers, your experience is of little use to us. Not that you shouldn’t apply, but you should know how different this is.

We are not hung up on GPA, what college you went to, or your performance on brain teaser type problems. However, if you have a crappy GPA or didn’t finish college, we’d be very interested in hearing your compelling story about that, and why that not only doesn’t negatively impact your performance, but has been a motivator for it.

This position is based in San Francisco in our Potrero Hill headquarters - a bright sunlit office with sweeping views of the San Francisco skyline.

If after reading this job description, you feel like you may have found your peoples, we’d love to hear from you.

  • Client Success Manager

At SocialWire, we are taking a new approach to advertising: building a recommendation engine for ads. Our system generates product-level ads and hyper-targets them to exactly the right audience. We do this at scale and automatically across a retailer's entire catalog. We want our ads to be so good that people discover interesting products through them. We want ads to actually feel useful.

We're looking for a highly talented individual to help manage our growing client base of the world’s top retailers. You should be passionate about building lasting relationships with clients and becoming a strategic thought partner for them. Our clients are highly intelligent and analytical people. You know, nerds. So you too should have a little nerd in you – maybe you like to geek out on ads, and it doesn't hurt if you like giant monitors and get goosebumps when you hear the word "dashboard." You should be comfortable diving headfirst into data but also be capable of communicating those insights to senior-level clients. You should also thrive in a fast-paced, quickly-changing startup environment.

As a client success manager you will be responsible for communicating directly with customers about their campaigns, presenting results, and overseeing their advertising strategies. Your role will start with the second sales meeting where you will help define the specifics of a campaign and walk the client through it. You will then be responsible for ensuring the success of the campaign. You should be prepared to take ownership of our clients’ happiness and feel pride in that accountability.

You may be a great fit if you have:

    • A college education (or a great reason why you don’t have one)
    • 1-3 years of client-facing digital marketing experience (preferably in an ad tech or SaaS company)
    • A track record of success with client satisfaction, renewals and spend growth
    • Exceptional analytical and Excel skills
    • Fluency with social advertising platforms, including Facebook and Twitter
    • Top-notch project management skills, attention-to-detail and ability to manage many tasks and clients at once
    • High intellectual horsepower and a high EQ
    • The willingness and drive to make your clients and SocialWire a success
    • Startup experience or proven ability to work in a highly dynamic environment
    • Experience working with retailers is a plus

We are located in the Potrero Hill neighborhood of San Francisco in a sunlit office space with a lounge area, a backyard, and a sweeping view of the city skyline. Our employee perks include free catered lunch every day, copious snacks and beverages, unlimited artisanal espresso, laundry service, great health/dental/medical plans, unlimited PTO, stock options, and the privilege of occasionally cuddling with our office dogs.

Online ads suck. But advertising keeps the web free (as in beer), and we want to keep the internet free. So rather than hating on advertising, we decided to do something about it.

We're looking for a full-stack engineer to join our talented team. As a full-stack engineer you'll have the opportunity to work on all aspects of our product from backend Python services to slick dashboard features in JavaScript. A day might start by kicking off map-reduce jobs, take a slight detour to brush up on NLP or machine learning techniques, a dive into our distributed ad engine, then once your clever new hack is pushed to production, end with a glass of Pliny the Elder and a game of pool.

You should be self-motivated, self-directed, and excited about solving hard problems. You will have a lot of autonomy in everything from the tools, languages and frameworks you use, to even the problems you want to be solving on a day-to-day basis. You'll need to balance speed and quality, order and chaos, and be comfortable without hard rules (though we do have code reviews and high standards). We move fast, with most features taking hours to a few days at most before they're live on production. We push early and often. We ask tough questions. We get shit done.

Last, but not least, as a SocialWire engineer, you will enjoy all the standard perks: hardware of your choice, flexibility in your workstation/desk setup, regular hack days, copious snacks and beverages, unlimited artisanal espresso, free meals, great health/dental/medical plans, laundry service, free gym membership, unlimited PTO, stock options, and the privilege of occasionally cuddling with our office dogs. We are located in the Potrero neighborhood of San Francisco in a sunlit office space with a lounge area, a backyard, and the best view of the city skyline we’ve seen. We also have a bright blue pool table named Marta.

So if the thought of keeping the internet free and solving lots of complex computational problems along the way sounds exciting to you, drop us a line--we want to hear from you.

We're looking for a web engineer to join our talented team. As a web engineer, you’ll be responsible for architecting our cutting edge analytics dashboard and owning a significant portion of our codebase. A day might start by prototyping a rich D3 visualization you dreamed up, transition into some Python and AngularJS hacking, and, as your beautiful new feature is being deployed to production, end with a glass of Pliny the Elder and a game of pool. You’ll mostly write Python and client-side JavaScript, but you shouldn’t be afraid of high-scale datastores or the occasional bit of HTML and CSS/Sass.

You’re happiest building web applications, but you love backend systems and computational theory too much to call yourself a web developer. You vehemently defend JavaScript when other coders bash it, but you understand why so many projects turn into jQuery-spaghetti. You have strong opinions about how to design an API and how to architect a thick JavaScript client. You passionately believe that enterprise software should be as fun to use as a B2C product.

You should be self-motivated, self-directed, and excited about solving hard problems. A day might start by brushing up on locality sensitive hashing and non-parametric statistics, transition into an afternoon of Python hacking, and, as you wait for a massive Hadoop job to finish, you’ll end with a glass of Pliny the Elder and a game of pool.

You’ll have exclusive access to rich datasets about online commerce that you’ll massage to find cultural trends and build clever recommender systems. You’ll work with both structured and unstructured data and spend your time thinking about diverse topics including NLP, OCR, trend detection, and large scale distributed systems. You’ll need to be equal parts academic, hacker, and engineer.

As our operations lead, you will be the glue between our revenue team and our product. We work with some of the top retailers on the planet and many of them spend millions of dollars a year through our platform. Your job will be part client success, part operations, part project management. You will also be helping design the product as you identify solutions that require additional engineering. You will be in a unique position to work closely with product/engineering as well as client services and sales.

You should have a strong understanding of how performance-driven online advertising works and a basic understanding of ecommerce. You'll need at least 3 years of experience in some form of performance based marketing and a college degree. Your analytical skills must be superb, people should be in awe at how you navigate excel. People should look at you a little funny when they realize how organized you are and your friends probably think you're a little high energy because you're always the one taking charge and making plans.
